History of Viet Nam according to Vietnamese legends, dates back more than 4,000 years. The only reliable sources, however, indicate the Vietnamese or their country’s history roughly dates to 2700 years ago. For most of the period from 111 BC to early 10th century, it was under the direct rule of successive dynasties from China.

In 1938, Ngo Quyen ended the thousand-year domination with victorious battle, the Bach Dang River battle. A new page was open for the history of Viet Nam. Vietnamese Kings ruled over Vietnamese dynasties. Following up the Ngo dynasty, successive dynasties not only painted the history of Vie Nam with brilliant pages but diversified the traditional culture of Viet Nam as well.

The Temple of Literature - the first national University, one of the most significant cultural achievements under Ly Thai To rule, becomes a remarkable tourist site today.

Hue, citadel established by Nguyen Anh as the capital at Hue, recognized as a World Heritage.

In 1858, the French attacked Da Nang to start their invasion and conducted their exploitation for the next 80 years. During this time, local uprising and revolts were bloodily suppressed.

The League for the Indepence of Vietnam (Viet Minh) under the instruction of Ho Chi Minh by name Nguyen Ai Quoc appealed the whole country to rise wiping out the invaders and declaring the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam with its capital at Ha Noi in 1945.

The ambitious French reoccupied the country in 1945. The Vietnamese People entered a 9-year resistance war which successfully ended in 1954 under the Dien Bien Phu victory won by their people’s arm led by General Vo Nguyen Giap. The Geneva Accords partioned the country in two with a promise of Democratic election to reunite the country. But the American intervention had caused a 30-year devastating war which came to an end in 1975. Viet Nam was reunified.

Since 1986 the Vietnamese Government has carried out many programmes of social reform, economic development, political strength. Viet Nam has been trying to improve its position in the world market. Viet Nam has also established diplomatic relations with every countries all the world through participation of  the Association of South East Nations (ASEAN), the Asia-Pacific Economics Cooperation (APEC), the World Trade Orgnization (WTO).
