Continue the city discovery with the visit of Ngoc Son Temple, founded in the 18th century, located on an island in the northern part of Hoan Kiem Lake (The Restored Sword Lake). Then, take 1 hour cyclo-ride (1 person/cyclo) for an exploration of the downtown and the Lake of the Restored Sword. Continue with an orientation tour on foot around the Old Quarter of the city, which is well known with 36 old streets and its name is representative for each kind of consumer goods that was sold in it. At the end of the afternoon, enjoy The Water Puppet Show at Thang Long Theatre, located in the Old Quarter, just near the shore of Hoan Kiem Lake or Lake of the Restored Sword. This art originates from rural festivals in Vietnam. The artists-men and women-stand waist-deep in the water to manipulate the puppets, making them move about, talk and laugh and even dance on the surface of the water. At a water puppet show, the audience lives in an atmosphere of a village festival; the audience watches boat races, buffalo fights, foxhunts and other rustic scenes amid the beating of drums and gongs. Arrive directly to harbor to take the traditional junk boat cruising around the legendary Ha Long Bay (5 hours). Wooden sailboat is designed in a traditional Vietnamese style, offering a full range of modern amenities: private toilet, comfortable dining-room with the well designed windows. Sofas in the sundeck is the place for sightseeing and hearing whispers of the sea. Ha Long means, "Where the dragon descends into the sea". Only this name itself already contains an occult. You can find here a lot of legends handed down from one generation to another. There are over 3,000 islands, composed of carboniferous chalk and covered with green vegetation. Wooden sailboats in Ha Long Bay Visit the fascinating Dau Go Cave called "The Cave of Marvels" and Thien Cung Cave, the "Cave of Cauliflower" surrounded by spectacular stalactites and stalagmites. Have some time for a swim. In the afternoon, return to the pier of Ha Long Bay & disembark.
Take a short ferry ride across the bay from Bai Chay to Hong Gai Island to the typical seafood market of Hon Gai Island where most local people purchase their seafoods. Best time to visit is between sunrise to 10:00 a.m where fishermen will sell their fishes after a hard working night. Return by ferry to Bai Chay (30 minutes). From here, you can see the whole panorama of Sapa Town. Ideal for walking across beautiful scenery. Discover the artificial Orchid garden and enjoy the art show program of the ethnic minority groups in Sapa. Return to Sapa.
Morning sightseeing to Binh Lu Market, located at 50 km from Sapa. This is a very pleasant trip that take you to wild landscapes. Meet the ethnics minorites like Nung, H'Mong, Dao... See a nice cave with remarkable stalactites and stalagmites still quiet undiscovered. Time to explore the town and purchase some last souvenirs.
Discover Notre Dame Cathedral (1877-1883) with the statue of the Virgin Mary at the entrance and right next to the square and the beautiful French-style Post Office (1886-1891), with its glass canopy and iron structure designed by Gustave Eiffel. See the Reunification Palace. Then, visit the famous War Museum, with armored vehicles, artillery pieces, bombs and infantry weapons displayed outside and inside the house. Then, continue to Cholon, the Chinese quarter close to your hotel and see Binh Tay Market with its big clock tower in the centre. Discover the Thien Hau Pagoda, build by the Cantonese congregation in the 19th century. Free time to explore on your own, or for shopping. Buffet Dinner at local restaurant, located in a colonial style villa with a garden.
Have a buffet breakfast at the hotel. Visit the famous Cu Chi Tunnel Network becoming legendary during the 1960s for its role in facilitating Viet Cong control of a large rural area. At its height, the tunnel system stretched from the South Vietnamese capital to the Cambodian border; in the district of Cu Chi alone, there were over 250 km of tunnels. The network, parts of which were several storey deep, included innumerable trapdoors, specially constructed living areas, storage facilities, weapon's factories, field hospitals, command centers and kitchens. The tunnels of Cu Chi were built over a period of 25 years beginning in the late 1940s. 12:00: Attend the Ceremony in the Cao Dai Great Temple.
Have a buffet breakfast at the hotel. Arrive at Cai Be Harbor and take a boat ride (small long boat, like canoe with roof/5 hours including village stop) to visit a fish harbor and workshop producing sweet, popcorn, and pottery... Continue rowing along the Tien Giang River, a branch of the Mekong River to the next village. Visit an ancient house and see the different ways of rural life. Lunch in the lovely orchid garden of Mr. Sau Giao (Vietnamese set menu), typical restaurant of the Mekong Delta. Then, continue by boat to Vinh Long City where your vehicle will wait you there. Depart by road from Vinh Long to Can Tho (34 km / 30 minutes). On the way, you can stop at Sadec, famous city of the French writer Marguerite Duras, author of the "Lover" novel. Arrive in Can Tho in the afternoon. Early wake-up for a Sunrise Cruise on the Mekong River on board of the Lady Hau boat to visit the floating market of Cai Rang (45 minute cruise). While you enjoy a special breakfast served on board, discover the Delta and its enchanted setting from the upper deck. Discover the fascinating market of Cai Rang. Continue by boat into the narrow channels where you will see the amazing atmosphere of the Mekong Delta and the busy life of the local people. Return at Can Tho. On the way, visit the K'Me Pagoda.
